When thinking of what artists inspire me the most, it is really hard to be selective however I have been looking at floral artists working on the feedback I received from Unit X, which was that I could develop the trapping of my flowers further this inspired me to look how other artist incorporate  flowers and nature into their work. Artist Lim Zhi Wei used a completely different method of incorporating flowers by drawing beautiful illustrations onto it making the flowerer itself a piece of art. Thailand I think this would be a good starting point for my summer homework.

I have chosen to look at Lim Zhi Wei work because I believe we both work in the same way very neat and fragile it’s almost as if you touched her work it would fall apart, I like this way of working however its very time consuming.

The colors she uses are bright and airy which works well with the flowers this simple but beautiful rose piece is my favorite out of her many beautiful pieces this one just stands out her composition of the rose works very well you have to look twice to see if it isn’t a painting sadly I could not find the title of this work.

The second image is my own work from unit x I tried to capture a cherry blossom flower and incorporate this into my knit work which I now know knit is not the place for me I have been struggling now for some time to find my chosen area I’m hoping the holidays will give me time to think where to go.

Artist Lim Zhi looks at the her work from different and unusual ways incorporating foreign objects into her work which taught me that anything can have the potential to create a piece of art work. When considering how by looking at this artist it will relate to my job in the future this is very hard as I do not want to be a designer in so many word what I would really love to do is to teach art and help children to discover their artist talents.

I have always loved Asia but my favourite place to travel would be Japan as it has such a rich cultural history such as Geishas tea ceremonies one art form witch is well known is to the world is Japanese print and calligraphy.

Artist Katsushika Hokusai is by far one of my favourite Asian artist he uses a traditional methods such as the wooden block print block however his style its completely different from Dao’s work as the tone of his colours in fig 1 titled Courtesan asleep is not very bright however his work has a great amount of details this process must take a very long time to perfect as you can see in fig2 and fig3.

The reason I chose Hokusai because I thought there is no better place to start by looking at the traditional artwork which has will has a great historical meaning.

 Hokusai work inspire me to attempt to create my own oriental print which I think worked out very well however for this process I inverted an image and quickly panted onto it with brusho, I then ironed onto it however the iron was dirty and it left black marks onto my image, however in my opinion it added an aged affect to my work and also the faded affect in fig 2 was also a happy accident over all I am quite happy with my work it’s amazing by looking at artists how much it can inspire you to develop your work.

During my trip to Thailand it was like traveling to a different world the atmosphere was completely different and there was a lot of new and different things to look at and discover which helped me to start my work. When visiting the national Bangkok gallery I discovered a local artist called Dao who creates colourful and abstract pieces of art which is a perfect artist to look at as we have been told to focus on colour I discovered that Thailand is such a colourful places which beautiful temples  street food and much more.

Artist Dao work pops out with her beautiful use of bright primary colours, what I like about Dao’s work is the way she applies colour to her work not just by painting but by using materials like coffee and splatting paint onto this piece called elephant (fig 1) .

 Dao’s work helped me to think about how colours work together I chose to look at Dao’s  because work it was great to meet the artist in person where any question I wanted to ask could be answered and to see a artist work in person has such a different feeling other than over the internet.

After looking at Dao’s work it helped me to develop my work as you can see I took my inspiration from the Thai temples using patterns creating my own representation of a Thai god I then played with repeated pattern (fig 2) and the use of colour particular bright and primary colours as Thailand uses this colour pallet a lot it was difficult to remember how to edit my work on Photoshop but luckily I had my notes from last year.  In fig 3 you can see how colour has completely changed the image it look angrier. 

                                                      
                                                                       Forth Artist

After playing with different process I really enjoyed the print process with has helped decided what I want to do for my next two years in university me thinking maybe Print or Weave.

I have chosen for my forth inspirations much the beautiful architecture of the Grand palace in Bangkok Thailand Built in 1782 sadly it does not say who built this intricate design however it was built for king (Rama I), the founder of the Chakri Dynasty.

The palace is full of beautiful ancient art works, made from materials such as gold, rubies and mirrors the patterns are what inspired me  the most, I wanted to  incorporate patterns into my work that this gave me the idea to repenting my images.

I felt like I had to include the palace into my holidays as I felt it heled me to think of how to produce my work it gave me an idea which I did struggle with during my holiday I also found it very hard to be motivated and to create art as I had a loss in our family.

                                                           

                                                                 Fifth Artist

Print 22 (no name)

 I discovered Seguy when I was looking for inspirations for the compassion of my work seguy works with pattern and colour he was a French entomology at a museum in Paris but was well known for his textiles work.
Sequy work style was both art deco and illustration style my thought on his work it 
that I love the bright  use of colour it just pops out his work helped me to think what if I disassemble my work and put it back together in different compositions to see what  it can create.

However his colour pallet kept on changing like which reminds me of my own work my colour pallet keep changing as Thailand is a colourful place.
My thought about seguys work is I like for the colour and composition but his later work seem a bit too abstract for my tasted however that just my thoughts .
